Diaphragms
Rothkopf is one of the country’s most respected providers of rubber components. Since 1956, our team has continually led the way, delivering the right rubber components and solutions for critical application environments. Learn more about our rubber diaphragm solutions below.
Diaphragms are a flexible seal between two chambers containing either liquid, gas, or both, that prevent the movement of fluids or contaminants from one chamber to the other. As pressure in either chamber fluctuates, the diaphragm “flexes” to maintain a consistent pressure differential. Depending on the application, a diaphragm may be manufactured in solid rubber or with reinforcing fabric sandwiched between two layers of rubber to increase durability.
Diaphragms are found in various applications, including pumps, valves, actuators, pressure regulators, meters, gauges, and compressors. Markets include industrial, automotive, aerospace, oil, gas, and medical.
Rubber Diaphragms are typically used in lower pressure applications, and depending on the application, may be molded from a variety of common compounds such as:
Nitrile, Buna-N [NBR] | Ethylene-Propylene [EPDM] | Neoprene/Chloroprene [CR] |
Fluorocarbon [FKM] | Fluorosilicone [FVMQ] | Silicone [VMQ] |
Fabric Reinforced Diaphragms are molded from the same compounds but with the added strength resulting from the fabric material layer sandwiched between two rubber layers. Common fabric reinforcement materials are Polyester, Polyamide, Cotton, and many more.
